Mason Greenwood’s return to Manchester United is reportedly about to be announced in the next week.
Within the last 24 hours, significant events have occurred. Manchester United announced the results of their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the 21-year-old’s detention last year in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
The Athletic’s in-depth report revealed that Richard Arnold, Manchester United’s Chief Executive, informed senior staff on August 4 that the England international would be resuming his association with the club, despite the Red Devils’ insistence that a final decision had not yet been made.
Arnold allegedly intended to make a video explaining the club’s decision. This announcement, however, was not made prior to the start of the 2023–24 Premier League season.
Greenwood was detained in January 2022 on charges of rape and assault. He then had to deal with more arrests due to claims of sexual assault and death threats.
The Englishman was also accused of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault that actually caused bodily harm. But in February, these accusations were withdrawn, allowing him to resume his professional career this season.
Thoughts of Greenwood moving on loan have faded, and the chance of a permanent departure is thought to be incredibly unlikely.
According to The Sun, it is anticipated that Manchester United will reassign the forward to their squad the following week, effectively putting an end to the rumors with a formal declaration.
According to the article, Greenwood has the backing of Old Trafford’s head coach Erik Ten Hag, and his teammates. Arnold is now likely to make the final decision.
Greenwood wouldn’t be instantly prepared for the main squad at Old Trafford given his absence from both competitive play and training since January 2022.
As a result, it is believed that the forward may play for Manchester United’s Under-23 team in the upcoming months in an effort to get back into physical shape after a lengthy absence.
According to reports, Manchester United delayed disclosing Greenwood’s circumstance until after the Women’s World Cup, in which England is scheduled to play Spain in the championship match on Sunday.
The forward has made 129 appearances for the 20-time English champions throughout the course of his professional career, making 35 goals and 12 assists along the way.
