In scathing remarks to his previous company, Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi has acknowledged that he never intended to sign with them in 2021.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner discussed his new challenge in Major League Soccer during a news conference that was held in Miami.
Before deciding to travel to the US, the Barcelona great had declined an invitation to rejoin the Catalan club in June.
He has scored nine goals in six games since joining his new team, and this weekend, his team will compete in the League Cup final.
The Argentine acknowledged that his family and he are content with their new existence.
According to TyC Sports, Messi stated: “We landed in Miami a month and a half ago; we are still finishing up with the process of settling in.
“We still don’t have the house we’ll be living in, but Miami was a fairly simple choice.
“We were persuaded to visit this location, and both the staff at the club once we came and the supporters or the people I encountered on the street made it very easy.
“The city is amazing and enables you to live the day quietly and very conveniently. The kids are about to start school. Although there isn’t much more to accomplish, it was simpler than we anticipated.
The World Cup winner then made a subtle jab at the Paris team and his means of leaving Barcelona.
“I’m happy, enjoying this new stage and the experience of living in this country that has always crossed my mind,” he concluded. We are where we want to be right now.
“I had neither planned nor intended to travel to Paris. It was difficult because I didn’t want to leave Barcelona. But because of God, the opposite is now occurring to me.
Messi’s transfer to PSG marked the end of a convoluted transfer drama that began in the summer of 2021.
The forward intended to renew his contract with his childhood club, but President Joan Laporta and Barcelona were unable to sign him because of issues with Financial Fair Play (FFP).
Although Messi made it obvious in a sad press conference that he had not wanted to leave Camp Nou, this opened the door for him to join PSG for free.
Additionally, FFP proved to be a problem in 2023 as Barcelona tried to find a way to bring back their best player.
Messi made the decision to sign with the Jorge Mas and David Beckham-owned squad in the United States rather than waiting.
