Matej Kovar has written a lengthy expression of appreciation to Manchester United as he departs.
Matej Kovar, a goalkeeper from the Czech Republic, finished this week’s transfer to Bayer Leverkusen. According to BBC Sport, his sale will bring around £7.7 million for Manchester United.
The academy graduate played on loan at Swindon Town, Burton Albion, and Sparta Prague before joining Manchester United in 2018 from his native Slovako.
His time at Sparta, where his team won the league last year, truly stood out. As part of the sale, Manchester United has a buy-back clause.
Matej Kovar statement
To thank Manchester United for the last five years of his burgeoning career, Matej Kovar posted a lengthy statement on Instagram.
Microsoft United. The location that each and every young boy fantasizes about and wishes they could visit, and I was one of them. At seventeen, I was able to leave everything behind and join Manchester United, which was a dream come true. I will never forget the thrill I experienced.
“I’m tremendously proud of and appreciative of having spent nearly six years at the club. Ups and downs have occurred. There were times of enjoyment but there were also times of struggle, and even in those times, I felt that my clubmates were there to encourage me and help me reach my goals both on and off the field of play.
Because of you, I wouldn’t be the player or, more importantly, the person I am today. There are many people in or around the club who need to be mentioned. Even knowing that it is not enough, all I can say to you is “Thank you so much for everything.”
“Last but not least, I would want to express my gratitude to all of the supporters for their support throughout the course of the six incredible years that I had the privilege of being a member of one of the top football clubs in the world. It’s time to part ways right now. I sincerely appreciate it, Manchester United.
Reaction to Kovar message
Kovar received a warm reception from both his former and current Manchester United teammates.
You deserve the best, club captain Bruno Fernandes said, to which former goalie David de Gea replied, “All the best bro.”
Kovar, who is only 23 years old, has made significant progress in recent years, particularly after his first loan stint at Swindon.
Manchester United supporters witnessed this firsthand during his outstanding preseason outings, as he played 90 minutes at Lyon and 45 minutes at Leeds.
Kovar, though, at United just ran out of road. Long-term backup status was not what he desired, and following Andre Onana’s summer arrival, there was no way to play football for the first team.
It made sense to cash in and provide Kovar with a sense of security rather than ongoing loans. United still has some control over his future thanks to the buy-back clause, and his transfer price will help to top off the finances in the short term.
