The 17-year-old forward played for Liverpool for the sixth time as a replacement in the second half of their 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Doak stood out during the Reds’ preseason. He scored in a win over Leicester City in a game in Singapore, and he has said that he wants to be a big part of Jürgen Klopp’s team in 2023-24.

“I’m just happy to be around – any minutes are a bonus for me, and I’m just trying to enjoy it,” the Scotland U21 player told Liverpoolfc.com.

“There’s been a big jump since I joined the club last year, and I feel like the best player I’ve ever been, so I just want to keep going.”

Doak said, “I don’t have any specific goals for the new season. I just want to play more than I did last season.”

“Of course I’m thankful for every chance I’ve been given, but I’m just trying to build a career, so I just want to play as many games as I can and do well.”

Doak is now a regular at senior training, and he is taking full advantage of the chance to learn from Liverpool’s top forwards.

He went on, “Well, the part of my game I need to improve is the end result, so I’m just trying to watch what these guys do, since they’re all either scoring or helping machines.”

The teenager’s fearless, aggressive play on the field has caught the attention of coaches at both the youth and senior levels. When asked about his mindset, he said, “I made a few appearances for Celtic before I came here, so I’m not used to it, and I never will be, but I’m more used to big crowds than most boys my age would be, and I’m going out to do what I’ve been doing my whole life, so there’s no reason to be scared.”
