It seems like Harry Maguire will still be at Old Trafford for a while.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, after a transfer to West Ham fell through, the 30-year-old England center-back plans to stay with Manchester United.
The speed—or lack thereof—at which Maguire’s exit was being organized caused the intended transfer to Hammers to fail. Maguire reportedly never spoke to West Ham manager David Moyes, according to sources close to the player, and no personal conditions were ever agreed upon.
At United, Maguire is currently in his fifth season. He didn’t play in the team’s 1-0 victory over the Wolves to start the season on Monday.
Maguire, who has 57 England caps and was a regular starter under Gareth Southgate, has fallen down Erik ten Hag’s pecking order at United with Victor Lindelof and left-back Luke Shaw the other options ahead of him. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, who scored on Monday, are ten Hag’s preferred pair in central defense.
