They were also due to meet Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League opener but the Portugal legend was out injured.

Skippers Henderson and Mane, who lifted Prem and Champions League titles together at Anfield, shook hands for the toss as flares went off in all directions.

The Senegalese star was on the scoresheet for his new employers in the first match of the Saudi Pro League season, but saw his side fall to a 2-1 defeat to Al Ettifaq in what is Steven Gerrard’s first win as manager of his new club.

And Mane – in his fifth game since leaving Bayern Munich – took just four minutes to bag his first goal, smashing home a low cross at the near post.

The Senegalese forward, 31, then fired a volley inches wide moments later with El-Ettifaq all over the shop.

At halftime, Gerrard and his Al-Nassr opponent Luis Castro departed the field after an argument.

But when Swede Robin Quaison headed in Henderson’s corner three minutes into the second half, the Liverpool veteran was jumping for glee.

Then, Moussa Dembele, a former striker for Lyon, capitalized on a goalkeeping error to flip the script and give El-Ettifaq a 2-1 lead.

As Gerrard and Henderson got off to the ideal start, Ayman Yahya of Al-Nassr sent a header off the bar and Mane had a late goal disallowed for offside.
