LIONEL MESSI’s harmless injury sustained during practice alarmed Inter Miami supporters.
Tuesday night’s Leagues Cup semifinal pits the David Beckham-owned team against Philadelphia Union, a competitor in Major League Soccer.
Just a few weeks into his stint with the Floridians, Messi may have the chance to take home a trophy thanks to the competition.
However, Miami might be without its best player after it looked that he injured his left foot during practice.
After receiving a pass from one of his teammates, the 36-year-old hooked his left foot in the ground and promptly pulled himself up.
Messi started to stagger around the field but overcame the excruciating pain to pass the ball to a teammate.
Coach Tata Martino promptly downplayed the Barcelona legend’s injury, insisting that everything was “normal” for the football superstar.
The Argentine said when asked about the injury: “I didn’t see exactly what happened.
“However, I assume that they would all have been outraged if it had been something severe.
“And I believe nothing happened because they were all in good health.”
Following the end of his contract with French champions Paris Saint-Germain, Messi joined Inter on a free transfer last month.
With eight goals in five games across all competitions, the Argentina international has been nothing short of a revelation for the team.
“I am very happy to have chosen to come to this city with my family, to have chosen this project, and I have no doubt that we are going to enjoy it very much,” Messi remarked upon his arrival in Florida.
“Great things are going to happen, and we’re going to have fun.
“Thank you all so much for making today possible.
“I am eager to begin my competition preparation.
I still have the same urge to do something.
