In a British club record transfer deal worth £115 million, which includes £15 million in add-ons, Chelsea and Brighton have reached an agreement for Chelsea to acquire midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuadorian international has arranged a medical exam for Monday, and the clubs plan to make a statement later in the day. Caicedo is expected to sign an eight-year deal at Stamford Bridge, with the possibility of an additional year, through the summer of 2032.

The astronomical price well surpasses the £106 million Chelsea paid to acquire Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in January, and it provides new Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino with a world-class defensive midfielder for his new team.

It comes after days of intense drama in which Liverpool successfully negotiated a British record transfer fee of £111 million with the Seagulls to get the 21-year-old. Although Chelsea had previously been thought to be the favorites to sign Caicedo, things took a turn for the worse before the Blues were able to land their man.

Chelsea have beaten Liverpool to the signing of the in-demand CaicedoThe much sought-after Caicedo has been signed by Chelsea ahead of Liverpool.Brighton had given Caicedo, who they had valued at £100 million all summer, until Thursday night to find a new home. Prior to that deadline, the Blues had not raised their offer above £80 million, but they did so after agreeing to the South Coast club’s terms and raising it to £100 million. That, however, fell £11 million short of Liverpool’s offer, which the Reds’ manager, Jurgen Klopp, confirmed on Friday had been reached with Brighton and was now in the player’s possession. But Caicedo has always had his heart set on relocating to Stamford Bridge, and that move now appears to be finalized.Chelsea will now acquire the player for a British club record £115 million fee, which is £15 million more than Brighton’s original asking price and £4 million more than Liverpool’s offer. The player had long dreamed of playing at Stamford Bridge. It’s thought that Chelsea’s long-standing interest in him—as opposed to Liverpool, who only joined the competition at the very last minute—along with his recent location in London, where he sent messages to important people indicating that he was headed to Chelsea, played a significant role in how his future turned out.
