Real Madrid set to unveil Kepa as new signing next week, deal sealed

KEPA has reportedly finalised his transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid after turning down the opportunity to join Harry Kane at Bayern Munich.

And as a result, Chelsea will look into finding a new goalkeeper on the open market.

28-year-old Spanish international Kepa is returning to his native country after five contentious years at Stamford Bridge.

The most expensive goalkeeper in the world joined Chelsea in 2018 for a staggering £71.6 million.

However, when Edouard Mendy came two years later, the former Athletic Bilbao player was relegated to a cup-keeping or bench warming position.

Last season, the star who made headlines by infamously REFUSING to be replaced in the 2019 Carabao Cup Final, reclaimed his position.

However, Mauricio Pochettino, the new manager, has declared Eduard Mendy surplus to needs despite the fact that he has already left Chelsea for Saudi Arabia.

Robert Sanchez signed a seven-year contract with the Blues for £25 million, moving from Brighton.

Additionally, his arrival made room for Kepa to leave as Bayern and Real Madrid both made efforts to acquire him.

After their No. 1 Thibaut Courtois had an ACL injury that kept him out for the duration of the season, Madrid wanted him on a loan with a buy option.

Bayern, who have sealed the £104m transfer signing of Kane from Tottenham, also submitted a one-year loan proposal for Kepa with an option to buy due to their first choice keeper, Manuel Neuer, still nursing an injury he picked up in a skiing accident last season.

Kepa, though, told the German giants last week that he had made up his mind to play at the Bernabeu.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg tweeted the following about Kepa: “News #Kepa: He is close to reject FC Bayern as there was the feeling for the club that he wanted to join them.

However, there were no agreements as was claimed.

“Kepa, NOW on verge to join @realmadrid to replace Courtois,” he continued. Bayern made known.

Later that day, Fabrizio Romano gave the traditional “here we go” confirmation to seal the agreement.

Kepa played in more than 100 Premier League games for Chelsea, who will open their campaign tomorrow against Liverpool at home.

He won the Europa League in 2019, the Uefa Super Cup in the same year, and the Champions League in 2021 while he was there.

He was also a member of the 2021 Club World Cup winning team.

Romano claims that the Blues will now look for a replacement for Kepa in goal.
