Sensational clash sees Chelsea and Liverpool share dramatic draw on opening day

The match between the two giants Chelsea and Liverpool ended with a 1-1 draw on the day that VAR played a decisive role.

The standout fixture of the Premier League’s opening round in the 2023/24 season is set to unfold at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea plays host to Liverpool. Despite being the visitors, the Reds took charge of the game and even outperformed the home team.

Just 18 minutes in, Liverpool surged ahead with a brilliantly orchestrated play. Salah breezed past Chilwell on the right flank before delivering a precise cross to Luis Diaz, who confidently tapped the ball into the net to break the deadlock.

Diaz’s goal injected further excitement into the match. In the 29th minute, Salah advanced and cleverly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Sanchez, but VAR ruled him offside. Just as Chelsea seemed destined for a tough match, they managed to find the net.

Precisely in the 37th minute, Liverpool’s defensive lapse allowed Disasi to sneak in and slot the ball past goalkeeper Alisson. The visitors’ defense was rattled once more, but to their relief, VAR intervened, deeming Chilwell offside as he received the ball.

As the second half kicked off, both teams maintained their thrilling pace. In the 53rd minute, after receiving a pass from Enzo, Ben Chilwell unleashed a powerful shot within the penalty area, only to be denied by goalkeeper Alisson.

Despite their efforts in the subsequent minutes, neither side managed to find a second goal. Ultimately, Chelsea and Liverpool settled for a 1-1 draw on the opening day.
