If Manchester United had signed Mohamed Salah, a current Liverpool forward, before making it big, the Premier League may look drastically different now.
One former talent scout claims that Manchester United passed up the chance to sign Mohamed Salah before he became well-known with Liverpool.
In 2017, Salah switched from Roma to the Reds, and he hasn’t looked back since. For Jurgen Klopp’s team, the Egyptian forward has 186 goals and 79 assists in 305 games across all competitions.
At Anfield, he has won several awards, including the EFL Cup, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and Liverpool’s first Premier League championship. He has, in essence, been one of the team’s best acquisitions in the contemporary age.
It turns out, though, that he could have been doing it all for Manchester United, sort of. This is according to Jeremy Seethal, a hopeful talent scout who observed Salah at the 2011 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
Seethal, who is located in Salah’s native Egypt, is currently in charge of recruiting for a collection of multi-club schools. He told The Athletic how he first saw the current Liverpool player back in the day and how he sought to get in touch with United about the forward.
He was sprinting quickly while on the right wing, preparing to shoot before cutting in and stroking the ball into the corner. Seethal stated, “All the things you see him do now (for Liverpool).
“He was exceptional, but it’s hard to tell what the elite level looks like. Salah was unknown to the major teams, so I suggested Ajax, PSV, and Manchester United.
“Either I got no response at all or I got an email saying, ‘Thanks, we’ll send it on,’ but no one ever responded.
Liverpool, who acquired Salah from Roma for just over £34 million six years ago, gained as a result of United’s loss. He promised Anfield his future in the summer of last year, much to the pleasure of the club’s supporters.
At the time, he declared: “I feel fantastic, and I can’t wait to win championships with the team. Today is a joyful day for everyone. I believe that renewing takes some time, but now that everything is over, all that is left is to concentrate on what comes next.
Salah will be hoping that Liverpool can turn things around and win more championships this year. The Reds had a challenging season the year before, finishing fifth in the Premier League and losing in the round of 16 in the Champions League.
