Dembele Completes Unexpected Five-Year PSG Deal

French international Ousmane Dembele has officially signed a five-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), marking his move from Barcelona, the reigning Ligue 1 champions confirmed on Monday.

The 26-year-old Dembele, renowned for being part of France’s triumphant 2018 World Cup team, initially joined Barcelona in 2017 from Borussia Dortmund and had later extended his contract until 2024.

PSG took advantage of Dembele’s release clause of EUR50 million to secure the services of the former Rennes forward.

In a statement issued by PSG, Dembele expressed his excitement about donning the club’s colors: “I’m thrilled to be a part of Paris Saint-Germain and eager to showcase my talents in this new jersey. My goal is to continue growing here and bring pride to all the fans who support the club.”

Having earned 37 caps for France along with scoring four goals, Dembele is now joining three other World Cup champions at PSG, including Kylian Mbappe, Presnel Kimpembe, and Lucas Hernandez.

Dembele’s addition makes him PSG’s ninth acquisition this summer, joining the ranks of Milan Skriniar, Lucas Hernandez, Manuel Ugarte, Cher Ndour, Marco Asensio, Lee Kang-in, Goncalo Ramos, and Arnau Tenas.

During his tenure at Barcelona, Dembele overcame initial hurdles and injuries to amass 40 goals in 185 matches. His achievements included securing three league titles in 2018, 2019, and 2023, as well as clinching two Spanish Cups in 2018 and 2021.
