In the current transfer season, Premier League opponents Crystal Palace are reportedly ‘trying’ to recruit Liverpool striker Curtis Jones, as reported by Caught Offside (h/t Liverpool Echo).
This summer, the Eagles have shown interest in the 22-year-old. They are currently considering whether to make a move for the midfielder in the coming weeks at Selhurst Park.
The South London club hasn’t decided whether to provide a loan with an option to buy or to table a fee at this time. There has been no progress made so far in negotiations between the two sides.
Jones worked his way up through the Anfield youth system and earned a spot on the senior team for the 2020-21 season. However, the teenager has played only a supporting role for the Reds over the years.
The Englishman has not yet established himself as a regular starter. The midfielder played in all 24 games for the Reds last season, contributing three goals and three assists.
With Jordan Henderson and Fabinho departing this summer, however, Liverpool will undergo a transition in its midfield and defense. However, it appears to be challenging for Jones to carve out a niche for himself.
This summer, we were able to secure the services of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. After reaching an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool may also soon be welcoming star player Moises Caicedo to its Anfield squad.
Jones may have been overshadowed by the aforementioned three guys. As a result, it appears unlikely that the midfielder will feature prominently in Jurgen Klopp’s plans again next year. Thus, a transfer to a team like Crystal Palace appears to be the ideal alternative for the Englishman to continue his growth.
