According to rumors in Spain, Carlo Ancelotti opposes Real Madrid signing former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea to replace Thibaut Courtois.
After Courtois suffered a cruciate ligament injury during a training session on Thursday, Madrid was obliged to search for a replacement.
The 31-year-old is scheduled for surgery and will likely miss most of the ensuing season.
De Gea has reportedly been taken into consideration by Madrid’s upper management, but Ancelotti isn’t convinced by the former United goalkeeper and would veto the signing, even if it were a free transfer.
According to the source, Sevilla goalkeeper Bono is among the candidates Madrid is considering, although the Spanish club may lose the Moroccan international to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Giorgi Mamardashvili of Valencia, who was an outstanding goalkeeper in La Liga last season, is also on Madrid’s shortlist.
De Gea, who left Manchester United earlier this summer, is still looking for a new team.
After 12 seasons at Old Trafford, the 32-year-old was unable to reach an agreement on a new contract with United.
Since then, United has replaced De Gea by acquiring Andre Onana from Inter in a £47.2 million trade last month.
