Klopp now eyeing LFC move for £15m gem who ‘handled Mo Salah’, he’s Reece James 2.0

Mo Salah was previously “handled” “exceptionally” by the Ecuadorian full-back…

Pervis Estupinan of Brighton & Hove Albion is a left-back who Liverpool are interested in signing this summer. Manager Jurgen Klopp has been impressed with the Ecuadorian’s performances in the Premier League.

How far along is Pervis Estupinan’s move to Liverpool?

FootballTransfers reports that the Reds have made it clear they want to sign Estupinan after raiding the Seagulls earlier this summer to acquire Alexis MacAllister for £35 million.

Andy Robertson’s health and form are reportedly being questioned with Liverpool’s altered system, and Estupinan may eventually succeed the Scotsman on the Anfield team.

According to the report, Klopp’s team was given the chance to sign the 25-year-old from Villarreal last summer, but he ultimately decided to sign a £15 million contract with the Seagulls.

The caliber of Pervis Estupinan?

Robertson, 29, has played 267 games for the Merseyside club, tallying eight goals and 63 assists during his time there. It would be unfair to suggest that he is done after a few lackluster performances. Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City for just £10 million.

Although allegedly “poor” toward the conclusion of the 22/23 season as the rest of the club discovered a late purple patch, the 61-cap Scotland skipper has played a significant part in bringing home the entire sweep of silverware under Klopp’s guidance.

Despite his form clearly deteriorating in the closing weeks of the season, he did manage an average Sofascore rating of 6.95, completing 84% of his passes, recording eight assists, making 1.6 critical passes, and clearing 1.3 balls per game.

Estupinan has flourished in England over the past year, recording an average Sofascore rating of 6.89 during his first Albion campaign. He has also completed 84% of his passes, averaged 1.5 key passes, 1.7 tackles, and one clearance per game, scored one goal and provided five assists, and has been dubbed the “complete player” by his manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The South American star, according to FBref, is among the top 17% of full-backs in the top five European leagues over the past year for assists, shot-creating actions, passes attempted, passes made, and progressive passes and progressive carry per 90.

Reece James, Chelsea’s recently designated captain, has been compared to FBref because of his similarly “complete” skill set.

The England international’s outstanding rounded qualities are highlighted by the fact that he ranks among the top 17% of positional peers for goals, the top 5% for shot-creating actions, the top 7% for passes attempted, the top 9% for progressive passes, and the top 10% for progressive carries per 90.

The superstar who earns £250,000 a week has been dubbed “the best in the world” in his position by pundit Ian Wright and was crucial to his team’s 20/21 Champions League victory.

Despite missing the majority of the previous season due to injury, the 23-year-old did show his talent in his 16 top-flight appearances for England, recording an average rating of 7.19, completing 91% of his passes, averaging 1.3 key passes and 1.9 tackles per game, winning 64% of ground duels and 69% of his dribbles.

With Klopp as a passionate fan, a move may be looming if not this summer, then perhaps during the winter, or perhaps in one year. Estupinan is not quite at this refined level yet, but he is undoubtedly making the steps to lead toward a role as a first-class phenom at the highest level.

After all, during Villarreal’s 3-2 loss to Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal in May 2021, the 35-cap international was praised for having “handled [Mohamed] Salah exceptionally” by football content creator and senior reporter Kendall Rowan. Rowan also made three crucial passes and successfully completed both of his attempted dribbles.

The all-encompassing former Yellow Submarines left-back well managed Liverpool’s Egyptian focal point, who did contribute an assist and two crucial passes but managed just one off-target shot and one blocked effort throughout the entire match.

Estupinan has it all, so if Klopp does decide to look for a new left-sided full-back in the near future, he should consider him.
