Another game in a row that Liverpool’s midfield target has missed while ‘talks continue’

Romeo Lavia was a substitute for Southampton but was not utilized for the second game in a row. Liverpool wants to sign him.

In Southampton’s pursuit of a solution to the question of Romeo Lavia’s future, Fabrizio Romano has stated that the club is “continuing talks with Liverpool.”

The Belgian midfielder was something of an unknown quantity when he moved to St. Mary’s from Manchester City in the summer of 2017. In the season that followed, he established himself as a permanent starter and emerged as one of the team’s most valuable players, even despite the fact that they were demoted to the Championship.

Lavia possesses the necessary skill set and physical condition to participate in each and every game for Southampton over the whole of the season. However, they have decided to keep him on their roster as an unused substitute for both of their games thus far this season.

The Saints did not use him in their opening Championship match against Sheffield Wednesday, which they won 2-1. The Saints did not use the former Manchester City starlet from the bench at any point during the match. However, he did not participate in the encounter against Gillingham at all because he was not included in the matchday squad.

To Anfield with Lavia?

Yesterday (8 August), the Saints were defeated by the Gills 3-1 at Priestfield as they competed in the EFL Cup. This is obviously a significant indicator that Lavia is going to be leaving the club in the near future.

It can only point to positive developments for Liverpool. When it was announced earlier this week that Southampton had turned down their third offer, the supporters’ anger was over the roof.

ImageWhen taking into account that the Championship club values him at £50 million, the Reds’ approach of £46 million (with add-ons), as reported by the Independent, was immediately rejected. It appears that negotiations between the two teams for the player are continuing, which is a huge relief.

It is quite improbable that he would choose to play in the second division given his ability and promise in the sport. Because the UEFA Euros 2024 are approaching quickly, he will want to ensure that Belgium will select him to compete in the tournament as well.
