Following Riyad Mahrez’s transfer from Manchester City to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli, Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish have sent him farewell notes.

Mahrez departs for Al-Ahli from Man City. Winger pays £30 million to join the Saudi team. Grealish and Haaland offer him a final note.

WHAT OCCURED? Riyad Mahrez has left Manchester City for Al-Ahli in a deal that could be valued up to £30 million ($38.6 million). During his five seasons at the club, the 32-year-old, who still had two years left on his contract at the Etihad, helped the Citizens win 10 significant trophies, including their treble-winning campaign last season. Haaland and Grealish, two former teammates at City, have since messaged the winger on social media.

“A top player and top person, we will miss you, bro,” Haaland wrote in his own tribute, which was uploaded online. I’m glad we got to play with you.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Mahrez is one of many well-known players who have defected to Saudi Arabia from the Premier League. N’Golo Kante, Jordan Henderson, Ruben Neves, and other players have already accompanied Cristiano Ronaldo to the nation this summer.
