With Los Angeles FC reportedly interested in signing the Spanish defender, Sergio Ramos may soon renew his fight with Lionel Messi in the MLS.
The four-time Champions League winner was a key cog in Los Blancos’ championship run over the past decade before following the Argentine great to Paris Saint-Germain. They were bitter rivals who played each other numerous times in the El Clasico but ultimately won Ligue 1 twice as a team.Prior to joining the Argentine legend at PSG, he spent the last decade playing for Los Blancos. After years of competing against one another in El Clasico matches and going head-to-head for trophies, the two bitter rivals found common ground and won Ligue 1 twice as a team.
While both players have already left Parc des Princes, Spain’s all-time appearance leader remains unsigned nearly a month after leaving the club. The 37-year-old veteran’s name has been mentioned in connection with the former Barcelona hero’s move to Inter Miami at various stages this summer, but nothing concrete has come of it.
There is still time for any interested clubs in the top US league to sign the legendary center back for free, as the MLS transfer window does not close until August 2. While the Herons have previously captured Blaugrana legends Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, it looks that they have their sights set on Messi’s former striking partner Luis Suarez.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the five-time La Liga winner is still being courted by MLS Cup champions LAFC, who are reportedly interested in bringing him to the United States. Like fellow Santiago Bernabeu alum Gareth Bale, he would forego Europe in favor of the Golden State.
Ramos recently visited Florida to take in a UFC event before he and his wife, Pilar Rubio, jetted off to New York. Rubio, a TV host, and her boyfriend saw the sites of New York City, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art.
While in town, they saw exhibits featuring the work of Vincent Van Gogh, a Dutch painter, and Karl Lagerfeld, a world-renowned fashion designer. She also captioned the photos, “Visited the Met museum with my love Sergio Ramos.” The couple was in New York City for some art exhibitions.
Earlier this summer, the vice president of Ramos’ former club Sevilla shot off rumors that he would be returning to the Andalusian side. “At the moment Sergio Ramos is not an option for Sevilla,” Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco told Marca. The two of us get along really well. He is a fantastic player who emerged from our development program, but he has no future with Sevilla.
According to his Instagram account, the Spaniard is still committed to his fitness goals and has recently been engaging in high-intensity endurance and calisthenics training at the gym. While his time in the French capital was not without its share of injuries, the defender has made it clear that he is committed to getting back to full health.
