Liverpool transfer news: Roméo Lavia may face competition, but a $44 million deal for a Brazilian player is expected to go through “in record time.”
The new Liverpool season begins against Chelsea in just 10 days, and there are just 29 days left for moves to be completed. The Reds’ final summertime friendly will be played on Monday.
Over the course of the past two weeks, events have happened that Liverpool either saw coming a mile away or entirely unprepared for.
Liverpool needs replacements now that Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have both been declared dead. The likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have already succeeded the likes of James Milner and Naby Keta, whose contracts were about to expire, but that is not yet enough.
Liverpool will still need to make at least one more acquisition before the end of the summer, and ideally that would happen before its match against Chelsea the following Sunday. If not, it won’t be long before Liverpool could still need two or three fresh faces.
Here is the Liverpool.com opinion on the rumors surrounding the Reds’ transfers that have surfaced today, starting with a look at a highly regarded player who has already received a few offers and a newer name that has surfaced as a potential target.
Roméo Lavia (Southampton)
Roméo Lavia, a former Manchester City midfielder, may draw competition from Liverpool since that transaction appears to be taking longer than expected. The Independent claims that Manchester United plans to enter the contest.
Erik ten Hag needs additional talent in his team, which Lavia could provide, but there is a more clear role for him to fill at Liverpool both now and in the future.
André Trindade (Fluminense)
In addition to Lavia, Liverpool is reportedly interested in purchasing André, a 22-year-old Brazilian holding midfielder, according to UOL. The Fluminense star is considered a potential replacement for Lavia but is more likely to be signed alongside the Belgian.
According to reports, Jorge Mendes might assist Liverpool in closing the transaction, and André would be permitted to depart for a sum of about $33 million (£26 million/€30 million), provided that it happened at the beginning of 2024 and not immediately away.
Although Liverpool see André as the ideal Fabinho successor, it would cost up to $44 million (£34 million/€40 million) to bring him in this summer, according to the Spanish outlet AS. Despite this, the Reds reportedly want to complete the transfer ‘in record time’ so they can immediately add the midfielder to Jürgen Klopp’s team.
