Leon Goretzka, a midfielder for Bayern Munich, is still a target for Man United.
The Manchester United Football Club has been open about its ambition to add one or more midfielders this summer. The Reds have been keeping an eye on other players since Mason Mount’s high-profile transfer from Chelsea in the first place.
The general consensus is that if United purchases another central player, one (or more) must be sold in order to balance the books.
Sofyan Amrabat and, more recently, Romeo Lavia are two names that have been connected to the Reds.
Now Leon Goretzka has come to mind thanks to Florian Plettenberg.
The 28-year-old is “still on the list” for United, and the team “never lost their focus” on the Bayern Munich midfielder, claims the writer.
Goretzka initially intended to remain in Bavaria, but his perspective may have changed as a result of the fact that he is not now a lock to start for the Bundesliga winners.
For the player, a move to Old Trafford would be considered a step down because they would be switching from one European elite to another.
What’s next?
The issue? Goretzka might not even get a start in this situation. Bruno Fernandes is set to play at position ten, and neither Casemiro nor Mason Mount will be taking a week off to make room for the German. At best, he’d be the fourth option.
Additionally, Kobbie Mainoo’s development would be hampered. He may be ailing right now, but he will be our midfield’s future. Do the club’s plans to sign a semi-expensive fourth or fifth choice option to restrict his development? I’m not certain.
