Jordi Alba, who recently joined Inter Miami CF, received a raucous and enthusiastic welcome from Heron’s supporters on Wednesday before entering the DRV PNK Stadium pitch for the first time in a pregame ceremony before their Leagues Cup Round-of-32 match against Orlando City SC.
Along with Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, the Spanish international completes the trio of former FC Barcelona legends who joined the club during the MLS Secondary Transfer Window. He was introduced in midfield by David Beckham and club owners Jorge and José Mas.
“As promised and as delivered, I’d like to introduce to you – for the first time he’s going to step on this pitch – the newest member of Inter Miami’s squad, Jordi Alba,” Jorge Mas stated before highlighting the star left back.
Before the game began, a nearly two-hour rain delay was endured by the crowd, so Alba addressed them in Spanish. “First of all, I’d like to thank the kindness everyone has shown me since I arrived,” he remarked. 2012 Euro champion Spain said, “I’m honored to wear this jersey and represent Inter Miami.
Hopefully, we can compete for every title as a team.
Alba came on in the 64th minute to replace fellow summer addition Diego Gómez, who had started the game on the bench.
