The preseason for Manchester United is nearly over. There are only a few more friendlies left until the United States tour is through before the Premier League season kicks off in two weeks against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The preseason games are gone, and while they don’t quite measure up to competition games, there have still been some enjoyable moments to carry over into the 2023–24 season.
The five finest goals from United’s tour are listed here now that the preseason games abroad are over.
Noam Emeran vs. Leeds United
One of a few games where young athletes may display their talent.
Despite the absence of many important members of the first squad, numerous United supporters attended the summer’s first friendly in Oslo, Norway. Although it gave many people their first glimpse of the recent acquisition of Mason Mount, most people will remember the game for Noam Emeran’s performance.
The 20-year-old French wide player has been a part of United’s youth program since 2019 and has spent the previous few seasons playing for the U-21 team. In Oslo, he had his first taste of senior action, and he didn’t let anyone down.
After the break, Emeran came on to replace Amad Diallo, and he wasted no time in snagging Isak Hansen-Aaren’s through ball and putting it past the goalkeeper. The Norwegian midfielder quickly recovered the ball after it was lost on a forward ball and soon found Emeran hiding behind the defense.
Before the game’s conclusion, the French forward assisted in doubling the lead by setting up Joe Hugill after outmuscling the fullback with a shimmy.
Donny van de Beek vs. Lyon
It was obvious how amazing it made him feel.
Donny van de Beek hasn’t had the best of experiences lately. He had a difficult time getting first-team minutes at United, had a lackluster loan stint at Everton, and of course last year he suffered a terrible injury right after starting to play again.
Thankfully, he made a full recovery from the knee injury that kept him out for the majority of the 2022–23 season. He also had a strong preseason, highlighted by an outstanding goal against Lyon in Edinburgh.
Daniel Gore made a wonderful cross from the byline, but Donny’s handling and finish were much better. I’m happy to see him healthy once more, and I hope he can demonstrate that more as his career progresses.
Jadon Sancho vs. Arsenal
United’s game versus Arsenal at MetLife Stadium, the first of the high-profile preseason games on the US tour, provided another recent signing with the opportunity to demonstrate his talent.
As part of Erik ten Hag’s experimentation with the front line, Jadon Sancho was given the chance to play center forward thanks to Gabriel’s subpar overcommitment.
A ball that the Arsenal defender had attempted to receive and clear unexpectedly appeared in front of him. Due to Sancho’s excellent pace, he was able to gain the separation needed to race toward goal and eventually fire a stunning shot into the corner at the near post.
Although Aaron Ramsdale (on both goals) likely could have performed better, Sancho’s power shot after racing forward was just excellent.
Marc Jurado vs. AFC Wrexham
Another game, another amazing goal for the young players.
Alvaro Fernandez and Marc Jurado, two Spanish full-backs, worked together on this one, capping off a brief period of possession just before halftime to regain the initiative against the National League champions.
Although it was hardly the game’s most memorable moment, for the United players involved, it was the result of some solid preparation.
Despite the ugly nature of the game—Paul Mullin’s tragic injury early on, Gore’s eventual dismissal, and United’s subsequent struggles in the second half—the goal was a wonderful moment from two very potential Academy youngsters.
Diogo Dalot vs. Borussia Dortmund
From a neutral standpoint, the US tour’s conclusion most definitely did not disappoint. By preseason standards, it was a five-goal thriller with some pretty strong play from United. Given how much possession they had, they surely should have scored more, but the opening goal by Dalot left no one unsatisfied as the fireworks got started.
Even with a close look at the shot and trajectory, the curler’s placement made it clear that it was Gregor Kobel from outside the box. The finest goal of United’s preseason, according to the standard criteria of top bins.
