Real Madrid made one final pit stop in Orlando before heading to Spain to cap off a thrilling preseason. The game against Juventus…
Carlo Ancelotti once again started with the diamond, but the starting XI had undergone some significant adjustments. Due to the extreme heat in Orlando, Modric and Kroos started, Joselu served as Vini Jr.’s partner in combat, and Tchouameni had a break. Taking advantage of a defensive breakdown by Madrid in transition, Moes Kean scored the game’s first goal against Real Madrid, and Timothy Weah scored twice before the first water break.
Real Madrid awoke from the water break and started to think of a flurry of options. Madrid was able to regain control of the game after a brilliant counterattack was put to an easy end by Vinicius Jr. Real Madrid just made the decision to speed up the pace and completely dominate Juventus with a range of powerful plays and strikes. As Madrid started firing crosses into the box, Jude Bellingham and Joselu were set up as target men. Wojciech Szczsny made some incredible saves during this time, which helped Juventus lead 2-1 going into the interval. In the second half, Juventus attempted to increase their physical dominance while Madrid tried to apply pressure. Madrid made substitutions for Militao, Alaba, Tchouameni, Rodrygo, Valverde, and Carvajal at the hour mark.
Valverde attempted a bold attempt right after entering the game, but it was easily blocked. Jude, Vinicius, Kroos, and Fran Garcia all had a key contribution to the numerous dangerous Real Madrid left wing sequences. Los Blancos lacked the decisive advantage needed to draw the game, though. In place of Vinicius Jr. in the 77th minute was Brahim. Ancelotti also decided to give Odriozola some playing time in the final preseason contest. Dusan Vlahovic scored in the final second of extra time to give Juve a 3-1 victory.
Lasting impressions from the preseasons: Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, and Aurelian Tchouameni have not only impressed but have shown why they are qualified to be unquestionable starts. Vinicius Jr. must adjust to a new position, but if anyone on the roster is up to the task, it’s him. He was Madrid’s top scorer during the preseason. Despite the amazing goal Joselu scored against United, he has since played pretty poorly. His absence from the last two games may be a hint as to Brahim’s possible role this season. Fran Garcia’s increasing contribution to the attack as a left-back has been positive, but concerns about the right-backs’ play persist.
