Giants’ Jason Pinnock Jokes that Odell Beckham Jr. ‘Might’ve Been a Little Jealous’ of His One-Handed INT

This weekend, the New York Giants may have unearthed not just a starting safety, but also a folk hero.

Jason Pinnock, a 2021 fifth-round draft pick of the New York Jets out of Pitt who the Giants claimed off waivers last August, was the talk of training camp this weekend after an eye-popping interception.

On Monday, the latest star spoke to the media and was asked if Odell Beckham, Jr., a former Giant who made a spectacular one-handed catch, had reached out to him.

“Nah, O didn’t reach out,” Pinnock laughed, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com. “He might’ve been a little jealous.”

The interception came in the end zone on a pass intended for 6-foot-6 tight end, Darren Waller.

“It was crazier than I thought,” Pinnock said after watching the play on tape. “It was cross-body, so it looked cool.” I’m not going to lie to you. I’m not going to brag, but it was a fantastic catch. It appeared that I was doing a step in air, similar to jogging in air.”

Pinnock also claimed that his father, Louis, a former footballer, kept him grounded.

“Great catch, but it’s all about what you do tomorrow,” his father said.

And it will be, but tomorrow should be less stressful because Pinnick appears to be putting some distance between himself and the rest of the fight for the safety spot next to Xavier McKinney.

Veteran free agent Bobby McCain and 2022 draft pick Dane Belton are also in the running for the job.

“In the end, whoever is out there on Sunday will win,” Pinnock said of the position struggle. “Obviously, you know what my goal is here: I want to be out there.”
