After the departure of captain Jordan Henderson, Liverpool officially announced the new captain of The Kop. The 1998 defender took over from James Milner and moved to Brighton on a free transfer.

Speaking after the 4-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday, the Dutch centre-back shared that this is a great honor for the player born in 1991.

“It’s been a really proud day for me as well as for my family. The feeling at the moment for me is incredibly proud and there are no words to describe it right now.”

“It has been a great honor for me to be captain of the Dutch national team, but to continue to take on this responsibility at Liverpool is very special. I will do my best to make it happen. don’t let people down.”

.

Previously, Van Dijk was always wearing the captain’s armband when both Henderson and Milner were not present, the former Southampton player was always a mental support for the defense as well as the team when it was difficult.

Joining the Anfield team in 2019, Van Dijk quickly became an impenetrable position and achieved much success in the colors of the Merseyside team, notably the 2019 Champions League.

In addition, the new vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has also posted on social networks that he is ready for his new role.

Liverpool have returned home and will begin their Premier League campaign on August 13 with an opening match against Chelsea.
