Barcelona were ready to offer a swap deal that could have seen three of their top stars join PSG in exchange for Kylian Mbappe, a sensational report has claimed.
The statutory deadline for Mbappe to initiate a one-year extension of his PSG contract expired at midnight, leaving him in a precarious situation.
The France international will become a free agent in the summer of 2024 after that period has passed.
However, according to PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi (via Reuters), the club will not permit that to happen.
Therefore, unless what would undoubtedly be a miracle U-turn occurs and Mbappe agrees to stay at Parc des Princes, their only choice would be to sell the forward.
According to ESPN, Al Hilal has already had a world-record offer of £259 million accepted for Mbappe. However, the player has so far declined to enter into negotiations with the Saudi Pro League club.
That leaves Real Madrid, a team PSG is apparently confident Mbappe has already agreed to sign on a 2024 start date with.
‘Three-player swap deal proposed for Kylian Mbappe’
Santi Aouna, a reporter for Foot Mercato, claimed in France that Xavi’s team was eager to sign Mbappe to a contract at Camp Nou as their star player for the upcoming campaign.
So much so that an ‘influential’ agent reportedly traveled to Paris to offer a trade that may have seen a number of elite players relocate to Paris in exchange.
Ousmane Dembele, who is actually on the verge of joining PSG, is allegedly one of those stars. The international teammate of Mbappe, Fabrizio Romano, has reportedly signed a five-year deal with the French club, however, the two clubs have not yet agreed on a transfer fee.
The second player is reportedly winger Raphinha, who Barcelona acquired from Leeds last summer for £55 million.
But the third participant in the paper will undoubtedly cause some skepticism. Gavi, a talented midfielder, is said to have been mentioned in connection with a potential trade.
Although it took until June to register the 18-year-old’s new contract with La Liga due to financial considerations, Barcelona was able to persuade him to do so last year.
Although Spanish clubs have reportedly set an increasing number of unreasonably huge clauses in recent years to prevent losing their finest talent, it is alleged that he has a release clause in his current deal worth €1 billion.
Therefore, it would be shocking and exceedingly unusual to see the Spaniard depart Barca in any kind of exchange deal.
However, according to Aouna, PSG rejected the agreement, thus at least two of the players on the list will stay at Camp Nou.
