The Daily Mail claims that Manchester United may compete with Liverpool for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer.
The young Belgian player, who had previously played for Manchester City, made his Premier League debut last year. He displayed hints of his enormous potential during the season, and it is now expected that he will depart the club following their top-flight relegation.
Liverpool has been rumored to be interested in the teenager for a number of weeks, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Merseyside giants are planning a second offer of £45 million to convince Southampton to let him join them.
While that is going on, the Daily Mail claims that Man United and an unidentified European team are both interested in signing him. Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina is a player United are interested in signing, but Lavia is still an option.
Huge potential
Lavia left a lasting impression during his first Premier League season with the Saints. He had excellent distributing and tackling skills. His ability to prevail in duels and his effort rate throughout a game also attracted attention.
After parting ways with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, Liverpool is eager to sign him, but they may have new competition as a result of their inability to reach an agreement. A second bid is being prepared, but it might not be accepted.
The fact that Southampton is determined that they will not accept anything less than £50 million for their prized asset may give other teams, including United, the chance to compete for the Manchester City graduate.
Amrabat is being considered for a transfer by United, but that might change at any time. Lavia, who is 19 years old, is seven years younger than Amrabat. He has tremendous potential and might be a better match for United.
The Belgian has already established himself in the English Premier League and would be a better investment than Amrabat. Lavia might initially serve as Casemiro’s backup in the no. 6 position before eventually taking his place.
