Manchester United were defeated 3-2 by Borussia Dortmund in the final game of their preseason tour in the United States.
Diogo Dalot and Antony’s goals were insufficient to swing the game in United’s favor.
Dortmund’s goals came from Donyell Malen, who scored twice, and Youssoufa Moukoko, who came on in the second half.
United enjoyed 66% of the ball to 34% for the Bundesliga giants.
Both teams combined for 13 shots on goal. Erik Ten Hag’s side, on the other hand, had seven shots on goal, while Dortmund had eight, necessitating the intervention of Tom Heaton and Andre Onana, who played in both halves.
United completed 562 passes with an 89% pass accuracy.
Dortmund, on the other hand, completed 308 passes with an 80% success rate.
Diogo Dalot was a standout performer for the Red Devils.
The right-back, who appears to have lost his assured starting berth since the World Cup to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, was brilliant in the 60 minutes he spent on the field.
Dalot made two crucial tackles in addition to his thundering goal.
He won four of the six ground duels he participated in. He was not obliged to compete in any air challenges.
The Portuguese had 44 touches on the ball and a fantastic pass accuracy of 91%.
Dalot attempted to ping the ball to his teammates four times and was successful three times, demonstrating his strong technical abilities.
The 24-year-old attempted three dribbles and was successful in two of them.
Dalot’s outstanding performance would definitely have gone a long way toward convincing Ten Hag to reinstate him as a regular starter ahead of the new season.
Ten Hag’s opinion of him could be strengthened by Wan-Bissaka’s poor performance when the Englishman came on.
