Maya Yoshida, formerly of Southampton and Sampdoria, has been signed by LAFC, and there’s a chance Lucas Moura will follow.
The Athletic stated that Yoshida, 34, has joined the MLS champion, and reports in his native Brazil had linked Moura with a move.
LAFC is currently under a transfer sanction that prevents them from signing foreign free players until after the August 2 deadline, thus the Yoshida deal is expected to be finalized later this week.
The 127-time Japan national team player recently became a free agent when his contract with German club Schalke expired.
His presence could mean the end of the line for Sergio Ramos’s popularity. Like Lionel Messi, the defender is a free agent after leaving PSG this summer, and he’s been mentioned in connection with clubs like Inter Miami and LAFC.
After five years and 219 games with Tottenham in the English Premier League, Moura is also a free agent this summer.
The 30-year-old has been linked to a number of teams, including Monterrey of Mexico’s Liga MX.
Meanwhile, LAFC is currently in second place in the MLS Western Conference, four points behind first-place St. Louis.
The team’s next Leagues Cup match is scheduled for August 2 versus Juarez.
On August 20, the MLS regular season resumes with a home game against the Colorado Rapids.
