MANCHESTER UNITED look set to finally land their No.1 striker target Rasmus Hojlund.
The Red Devils have reached a £72million deal to land the 20-year-old Atalanta ace.
Manchester United have agreed a £72m deal to sign Rasmus Hojlund
The most likely fit into Erik ten Hag’s system
Hojlund’s stats last season
United will pay £64m upfront, with a further £8m coming in add-ons as Hojlund pens a five-year deal after saying goodbye to team-mates.
Only Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes among the squad’s strikers broke the 10-goal barrier last season; Erik ten Hag has been extremely vocal about his desire to sign a fresh player.
Following the two parties’ agreement, the Dutchman may begin figuring out how Hojlund will integrate into his team.
The forward, who has been dubbed the Danish Erling Haaland, should naturally fit in at the point of United’s attack.
In Ten Hag’s regular 4-3-3 formation, which is anticipated to be deployed once more, Hojlund slots in ideally at No. 9.
Rashford, who has said that the left wing is his favourite position, would back him in this with one of Antony or Jadon Sancho playing on the right wing.
On most gamedays, Mason Mount and Casemiro would join new club captain Fernandes in midfield.
The remainder of Ten Hag’s preferred back line from last season will remain the same with Andre Onana at the center of the defense.
United may end up playing a two-striker system
With Luke Shaw at left back and Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at center-back, the only position where Ten Hag has flexibility from game to game is right back.
Of course, the former Ajax boss is flexible with his tactics and might even start Hojlund and Rashford in a two-striker diamond midfield against certain opposition.
The alternative is for United to play with three defenders at the back, with bombing wingbacks backing a fiercely attacking trident.
Mount and Onana’s additions to the team’s spine will make United stronger as well.
A transfer for Moroccan World Cup standout Sofyan Amrabat, though, has also been rᴜmored.
