Inter Miami Owner Confirms Lionel Messi Will Return To Barcelona

According to Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas, Lionel Messi will have a farewell match against Barcelona at the Camp Nou, although there will be no chance of him returning to his old club.Messi has never had a chance to say goodbye to Barcelona fans since his departure in 2021 and when he chose not to return to Camp Nou after leaving Paris Saint-Germain this past June. However, the boss of Inter Miami insists the Argentine superstar will have the opportunity to say goodbye to Barca.

Appearing on the Offside with Taylor Twellman podcast, Jorge Mas said Messi will return to Camp Nou. He said: “I don’t know if it will be a friendly or a gratitude match. They have the Gamper Trophy being held in the summer. There will be a similar time, hopefully when the new Camp Nou opens. , since their stadium there won’t be playing for the next year and a half, hopefully Lionel Messi can say goodbye properly.”

However, Mas has flatly ruled out the possibility of Messi returning to his old team on loan. “It doesn’t require Messi to play for Barcelona. He won’t be on loan there. That won’t happen,” Mas quickly refuted. “Yes, he deserves a proper goodbye. Yes, I will do everything in my power to facilitate and help him do it.”

Messi decided not to return to Barca and turned down an extremely lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2023. He is currently enjoying his first time playing in Miami with Barca team-mate, Sergio Busquets, with 3 goals in his first 2 appearances for the MLS club.
