RANKING: Liverpool vs Leicester City player rating: Brilliant rookie; Defensive problem

Liverpool played newly relegated Leicester City as part of its preseason practices in Singapore and displayed more promising early-season traits.

A rampant first half performance saw the Reds take a 3-0 lead into the break, with Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota once again on the scoresheet, while Bobby Clark also got in on the act.

Liverpool didn’t let up in the second half, with Ben Doak on hand to nod home at the back post as the Reds scored four for the third game running.

Jurgen Klopp once again used the outing as another opportunity to take a good look at his squad as he made 10 changes at the break, with Dominik Szoboszlai making his return after missing last week’s friendly against Greuther Fürth.

Here’s how we rated the Liverpool players.

FIRST HALF TEAM PLAYER ‘RATINGS’

Caoimhín Kelleher – 7

Out quickly early on to deny Patson Daka with a superb save, then didn’t really have much work to do. Still showed why Jürgen Klopp is so keen to keep hold of him.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7

Back in his usual hybrid role. Started off somewhat quietly but his influence grew, leading to him orchestrating the move that ultimately resulted in Núñez’s opener.

Ibrahima Konaté – 4

Given a couple of nervy moments as he covered for Alexander-Arnold with Leicester breaking. As Liverpool took control though, he virtually became a spectator.

Virgil van Dijk – 5

Wearing the captain’s armband, and led his side well as he snuffed out an early opportunity for Leicester.

Andy Robertson – 6

Even playing in the 3-2-5 in attack, he showed no hesitation in getting himself forward and popping up in dangerous areas, linking up well with his opposite full-back as per usual.

Curtis Jones – 6

Played in the number six role, and looked comfortable. Whether it utilizes his attributes well is up for debate, but we’ll wait and see what comes of the position as the summer rolls on.

Bobby Clark – 7

The youngster impressed in the middle of the park, and took his chance really well as he swept home Liverpool’s second.

Alexis Mac Allister – 7

Played a big hand in the first two goals during the first half, showing brilliant composure in tight spaces. Looks to be the perfect fit in this midfield.

Mohamed Salah – 6

Looked really bright during the first half, pressing and haranguing the Leicester players. Another couple of assists as he continues to show his creative side this summer.

Diogo Jota – 8

Lively on the left-hand side, and showed his incredible aerial ability to head home the third. It’s going to be a tough choice deciding on that front three in the new season.

Darwin Nunez – 7

Another goal to add to the tally in pre-season. Certainly one of the easier chances he’s likely to get, but showed good instincts to follow up on Jota’s effort.

SECOND HALF TEAM PLAYER ‘RATINGS’

Joe Gomez – 6

Supported Doak well down the right, and along with his fellow defenders enjoyed a better second half compared to last week.

Joël Matip – 6

Looked a little more assured compared to last week’s showing in Germany, although tougher tests will be coming.

Jarell Quansah – 7

Given some rough treatment by Leicester, and no risks taken as he looked to have picked up a knock late on.

Kostas Tsimikas – 6

Got up well down the left during the second half, but with the game winding down became less involved.

James McConnell – 6

Put his mix-up with Adrián last week behind him to produce a solid enough performance in the middle.

Harvey Elliott – 6

Another 45 minutes in the legs and battled hard in the middle of the park, although wasn’t really challenged by his opposite numbers.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 7

Might just give Alexander-Arnold a run for his money on set-pieces. His corner led to Liverpool’s fourth, and almost caught Leicester out with a brilliant effort from distance.

Ben Doak – 7

Such an exciting prospect. Looked really lively once again on the right, and showed his finishing instincts with a well-taken header at the back post. He was a constant threat yet again.

Luis Díaz – 6

Left a little frustrated by the referee on a couple of occasions, having been denied another goal, but he produced another exciting display on the left.

Cody Gakpo – 6

His usual reliable self as he returned to leading the line. Liverpool has a few different approaches it can utilize now with its forward line.

Alisson Becker – 6

Looked commanding as ever after replacing Kelleher on the hour mark, and played a trademark ball over the top out of his hands for Luis Diaz which could have resulted in a goal on another day.

Calum Scanlon – NA

Given just over 10 minutes, but there really wasn’t much to do for him.

Melkamu Frauendorf – NA

A late cameo as he replaced Quansah.
