Sharing about the decision to part with The Citizens, Mahrez said: “Today marks the end of an unforgettable chapter in my life, a five-year journey filled with countless memories. Before leaving, I wanted to thank the board, the manager and the staff for giving me the chance to prove myself at the highest level.
“To my friends, both past and present. Sharing the pitch and the dressing room with you has been a pleasure.Together, we’ve broken countless records, achieved what seemed impossible and never stopped believing in ourselves during the challenging times we faced. Our last season will forever be remembered in our Club and beyond, and I’m proud to have been a part of it.
“Finally, I wanted to thank you, Cityzens. Thank you for making me feel like a part of your family from day one, and giving me the confidence every time I stepped onto the pitch wearing this shirt. I’ll be forever grateful for your support and your love.
“Today I leave but I will never forget any of you. I wish the very best for the Club in the future, until we meet again.
“Thank you for everything,”
Mahrez joined the Etihad Stadium team in 2018 from Leicester City. After 5 years with Man City, he has played 236 times and scored 78 goals β adding 59 more for his teammates.
Mahrez is loved by Man City fans for his technical goals, especially his beautiful left foot handling and classy ball control. The 33-year-old striker has also been voted Player of the Month 7 times at Etihad, with the club conquering 11 noble titles, including the great treble in the 2022/23 season.
Moving to Al Ahli, Riyad Mahrez will help the old club collect Β£ 30 million in transfer fees. The Algerian player will sign a 4-year contract with the rich Arab team, earning a salary of Β£ 25 million/year.
At the new club, Mahrez will become teammates with a number of other Premier League stars such as Roberto Firmino, Edouard Mendy or Allan Saint-Maximin, who also joined Al Ahli this summer.
