Wrexham’s pre-season friendly against Manchester United was called off after a frightening accideпt left Paul Mullin on the field in need of oxygen.
Phil Parkinson’s team played the Premier League heavyweights in San Diego on Tuesday evening, but the Red Dragons manager was left worried after only 10 minutes as his star man went down hurt.
As he pursued a looping pass forward and bore down on the United penalty area, the striker appeared to be through on goal, only to be clattered into by United keeper Elliot Bishop.
The terrible impact sent Mullin to the ground at Snapdragon Stadium, where he remained while the referee signaled for medics to arrive.
The 28-year-old was given oxygen on the pitch while the game was delayed for several minutes, as his stuппed teammates looked on.
A medical cart was brought onto the field, but Mullin was able to regain his footing and was replaced by Billy Walters.
He was plainly in paiп as he made his way off the field, still receiving oxygen as he was carried off by medical personnel.
Meanwhile, Bishop was fortunate to only receive a yellow card.
The loss of Mullin, who scored 38 goals for Wrexham last season, will be a major issue for Parkinson as the new season approaches.
In his absence, though, his teammates rallied, as Elliot Lee and Aaron Hayden both scored first-half headers to give the Red Dragons an extraordinary 2-0 lead at halftime.
