Security grabbed a fan who ran onto the field at DRV PNK Stadium when Inter Miami star Lionel Messi was substituted against Atlanta United on Tuesday.
The supporter ran the length of the field before being tackled in front of Miami coach Tata Martino’s coaching area. Messi was led off the field to a standing ovation in the 78th minute after scoring two goals and helping on one in Inter Miami’s 4-0 Leagues Cup victory.
During Messi’s first season in Major League Soccer, security has been a top priority. Messi warmed up inside before his first match on Friday. Inter Miami has increased security since Messi’s arrival, with the team now using a bus rather than walking the 100 yards from the training complex to the stadium.
Messi scored twice in the first 22 minutes of the game on Tuesday. On Friday, he scored his first goal for Inter Miami, a game-winning free ƙicƙ in stoppage time against Cruz Azul.
