Mohammed Salah’s goal in the 89th minute helped Liverpool avert a humiliating preseason defeat to Greuther Furth of the Bundesliga’s second tier in Germany.

Although Jurgen Klopp’s team excelled on offense, they lost their first two-goal advantage due to a lack of defensive control and careless defense.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring in stellar fashion midway through the first half but Furth leveled through Julian Green’s equalizer two minutes after the restart.

Jurgen Klopp made 11 changes at the break and Liverpool should have been clear after Darwin Nunez’s quick-fire double in the second half as the Reds led 3-1.

Furth took the lead, though, because to several defensive miscues. Lukas Petkov scored in the 67th minute, and Armindo Sieb scored again to give his team a 4-3 advantage before the 80th minute.

When Nunez connected with Salah, the late equalizer that save Liverpool’s face was scored, the Reds were on the verge of defeat.

Darwin Nunez should have scored three goals, but his header was beautifully saved by Liverpool’s goalkeeper in the waning seconds.

Prior to traveling to Singapore for the second leg of their preseason trip and more challenging matches against Bayern Munich and Leicester City, the Reds were playing their second warm-up match and arriving in Bavaria to get ready for the next season.
