Onana: Going through a very long process to become a super goalkeeper, is a person with a great heart who always puts charity above everything

Manchester United have completed the signing of Andre Onana. The Red Devils have splashed £47m on the Cameroon goalkeeper, who will replace David De Gea next season.

The Cameroon international was brilliant in the Champions League last season. It was a tournament in which he thrived, helping Inter Milan reach the final.

The 27-year-old has signed a five-year contract worth around £6.2 million a year. And he will most likely share the wealth accumulated from his popularity with his hometown.

Back in 2020, it was reported that Onana used part of her salary to fund the grid that powers a small African town.

This generous soccer player also has a fund that provides help to kids who don’t have the easiest lives.

He started his career at a young age at Barcelona but annoyed the Catalan giants when he turned down an offer to join Ajax at the age of 18.

However, this decision is clearly right as Onana has become one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.

A player who loves charity

Born in Cameroon, Onana had no intention of supporting her mother’s hometown of Mengueme.

But, after signing a £20,000-a-week contract in 2019 while playing for Ajax, he decided he had to give something in return.

Onana uses her money efficiently, financing an electric grid that provides electricity to the people of Essoessam.

He brought the people of Menguene out of the shadows and limited their dependence on kerosene lamps.

And that’s not his only charitable donation.

In 2016, Onana established her foundation to help African children, providing them with the means to get a better education, giving them access to medical care, as well as helping those affected by terrorist attacks.

“I know firsthand what many children in my country are going through,” he rҽvealed. “In me, I feel that I have to help them have a better future.”

Onana’s success is partly due to former Barcelona star Samuel Eto’o.

A prodigy of the legendary striker’s academy in Cameroon, he joined La Masia Academy at the age of 14.

“I’m so grateful for what he’s done for me from his background,” Onana told OmaSportsTV.

But things did not go well for Onana in Catalonia.

In 2014, Barcelona was banned by FIFA for violating the rules of signing foreign young players.

That means the development of the young Barça players is halted because they cannot play any competitive matches for 18 months.

When he returned, playing for Barcelona against Ajax in a UEFA Youth League under-19 match, he won man of the match, which alerted Ajax’s coaching staff.
