After he eliminated Arsenal star Bukayo Saka, Lisandro Martinez received rave reviews from MANCHESTER UNITED supporters.
Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes’ goals helped the Red Devils defeat Arsenal 2-0 in the Premier League Summer Series match in New Jersey, USA.
And Martinez’s performance as he attempted to rough up the Gunners was one of the game’s greatest talking points.
The defender, who was known as the Butcher while playing for Ajax, was rough with Bukayo Saka.
Martinez received a yellow card for rushing into a tackle on the winger when he had little chance of winning the ball.
Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, reacted angrily to the challenge and approached Martinez.
The Argentine was delighted to square off with the midfielder, and the crowd admired his enthusiasm.
He’s back, one person wrote. Blood is on the butcher’s mind.
“They call Martinez the butcher for a reason!” said another.
“Martinez butcher even on friendly,” a third person stated.
Additionally, someone else said: “Might just be the best defender in the Premier League.”
Martinez’s first season at United last year was a testament to his reputation for tough, ɑggressive defending.
In a match against Leeds in February, he angered the crowd by sliding his studs down Patrick Bamford’s face but escaped with a yellow card.
Martinez’s style is unlikely to change now that he has acknowledged that he gives every tackle his all.
The defender’s response when asked about his nickname, “Butcher,” was, “I don’t even recall who gave me the nickname at Ajax or why. I guess it has to do with how ɑggressively I play my game.
“The fɑct is, I approach every assignment as if it were going to be my last, so in a way, it does fit me.
Having said that, my ability to understand the game and make decisions has significantly improved.
