After spending the second half of last season at Manchester United, Wout Weghorst was sent back to Burnley at the end of the season.
The massive striker has returned to his parent club and was welcomed back to Vincent Kompany’s first team.
However, his return was not greeted with the same goodwill from Burnley’s followers.
As The Sun reported, Weghorst was booed by Burnley fans on his first appearance since returning, in a pre-season friendly against Genk.
Weghorst was brought on at the end of the second half as his team were chasing a goal but was greeted with booing chants and boos after every touch.
Burnley fans are saddened that Weghorst chose to leave the club following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2021/22 season.
Weghorst left the Clarets on loan to Besiktas before joining United in the second half of last season, where he played 31 times for Ten Hag’s side.
Despite only scoring twice during his time at Manchester, the great striker will never forget his time at Old Trafford, which included winning the Carabao Cup and reaching the FA Cup final.
While Weghorst was absent, Burnely secured promotion back to the Premier League, winning the title straight away but made it clear their affection for the Dutchman.
Weghorst’s future rҽmains uncertain but it would be a surprisҽ to see him stay at Turf Moor for the upcoming campaign.
United have decided not to let the huge striker go forever but are still determined to find a central striker in the market.
Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund rҽmains the favorite player to join the ranks at Old Trafford with United in talks with the Italian club over a transfer.
