Kylian Mbappe, a prominent player for Paris Saint-Germain, was not included in the squad’s preseason trip to Japan because he has persisted in refusing to sign a new contract.
Mbappe has only one year remaining on his current contract with PSG, and he has made it clear to the club that he has no interest in signing a new one.
The Ligue 1 winners have chosen to keep him at home as they get ready for the forthcoming season in Japan, according to L’Equipe.
With his contract coming to an end and Real Madrid showing a strong interest, it appeared 14 months ago that the World Cup winner would be leaving the Parc des Princes.
However, before the end of the game, the Frenchman made the decision to extend his contract with his club, keeping him there through the summer of 2025.
The deal actually only ran through 2024, with the player having the option to extend it by another year, as was subsequently proven to not be the whole truth.
The 24-year-old informed the team in writing earlier this summer that he would not be triggering the additional year, which he has until July 31 to do.
In spite of his wish to leave when his contract expires, it has undoubtedly increased the likelihood that the forward will depart the Parisiens this summer.
Whether Mbappe is acquired during the current transfer window or one year from now, Real Madrid remains the front-runner to do so.
He is apparently delaying his departure until after a year since he will be promised a sizable bonus if he stays for the second year of his present contract.
The former Monaco player reportedly wants a clause like the one that allowed Lionel Messi to transfer to the Major League Soccer to whoever he signs a contract with next.
During his stay in the USA, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is making money off of the league’s partnerships with Adidas and Apple TV.
Ethan Mbappe, the forward’s 16-year-old brother, has been included to the squad by new PSG manager Luis Enrique, adding another twist to the tale of Mbappe missing out on the trip to Japan.
On their trip to the Far East, the French champions will face off against Al Nassr, Cerezo Osaka, Inter Milan, and the Japan national squad.
