As he was put through his paces on Friday, The new Man United goalkeeper got to know his new teammates.
Andre Onana has participated in his first practice since being acquired by Manchester United for £47.7 million from Inter.
The goalie was seen to be in good spirits as he took part in many exercises in the hot New York sun. This week, Onana signed a five-year contract and flew to the US to meet his new teammates.
After David de Gea leaves, the 27-year-old, who will wear the number 24, will take over as Erik ten Hag’s primary choice in goal. The Reds manager gave an explanation of the Cameroonian’s signing on Friday.
Ten Hag said: “Nowadays, football also demands good playing from the back, out-playing qualities, and that is a quality Andre has. You need both and you need to cover both areas.
“I think with his physical presence and also with his personality, he is so keen on winning. He’s so, so eager to win trophies and he will help the team and he will help the squad to get to higher levels.”
Onana’s participation in United’s match against Arsenal in the first Friendlies of their US Tour remains uncertain. However, as he gets ready for his debut, the United coaching staff put him to the test on Friday.
Onana was observed conversing with Dean Henderson, who was included in the US tour despite an apparent impending permanent transfer to Nottingham Forest. The other goalkeepers traveling with them are Radek Vitek, Nathan Bishop, and Tom Heaton.
