After passing his Manchester United medical exam on Thursday, Andre Onana was seen traveling by plane to New York, where he will join his new teammates on their preseason tour.
This summer, United made Onana, 27, their top priority to take David de Gea’s place, and they finally finalised his transfer from Inter Milan on a five-year deal with an additional year’s option.
De Gea left Old Trafford earlier this month after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract. The failure to reach an agreement was brought on by manager Erik ten Hag’s concerns about De Gea’s readiness as the club gets ready to contend for big prizes.
Onana was chosen by Ten Hag and company as their top candidate to replace him in goal, and the stopper was seen travelling in Manchester on Tuesday for his physical after signing a £47 million contract with Inter.
After appearing to pass that physical two days later, the Cameroonian was seen being photographed at Manchester’s airport. This allowed him to fly to New York and get in touch with his squad before the move was formally confirmed.

Onana’s £47 million summer deal from Inter Milan has now been announced by United.
Onana might make his professional debut on Saturday in New Jersey against Arsenal before going on to play for Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
When United’s new No. 1 arrived at Milan airport on Tuesday to catch a flight to Birmingham before his physical, he chatted with Gazetta dello Sport.
The former Ajax shot-stopper added, “The important thing is to be honest and always tell people the truth.” “I am a person who seeks out fresh challenges constantly.
“Playing for a club like United and in the Premier League is irresistible.” Everyone involved wanted this to happen.
The fact that I would have been equally happy if I had stayed at Inter, though, is what really important. In fact, a magic that is virtually impossible to express was born in Milan.
‘Being chosen to continue this history makes me happy and responsible: I want to win trophies with my new colleagues,’ Onana said when asked how it made him feel to follow in the footsteps of legendary Man United goalkeepers like Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van de Sar, and David de Gea.
After graduating through the Ajax academy levels, Onana had previously played for Ten Hag, and the Dutch manager was eager to orchestrate a reunion as Man United stepped up their interest in the Serie A star after completing the £60 million acquisition of Mason Mount earlier this month.

The Cameroonian international advanced through the ranks at Ajax under the direction of the Dutch coach.
The goalkeeper is especially strong with the ball in his hands, and Ten Hag was determined to develop De Gea’s footwork during the summer transfer window.
Onana has made 41 appearances in all competitions since joining Inter Milan prior to the 2017–18 season, helping Simone Inzaghi’s successful Copa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana bids.
Onana participated in the June Champions League final between Milan and Manchester City, which Milan won 1-0 in Istanbul.
With the arrival of Onana, the club’s investment will have crossed the £100 million mark, enabling efforts to concentrate on securing a striker, which was Ten Hag’s final goal for the summer roster makeover.
Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta is the club’s primary target as they consider another foray into the Italian division.
Additionally, obtaining the keeper’s commitment would make it possible for Dean Henderson to finalize a £20 transfer to Nottingham Forest.
The 26-year-old played with the team last season on loan until an injury ended his season early. He is anxious to return to the City Ground and reclaim his starting position.
Zion Suzuki from Urawa Reds must be acquired by the team before Heaton can make his summer transfer.
To provide backup in the event of a goalkeeping crisis, Tom Heaton, 37, signed a one-year contract extension earlier in the transfer window. However, if Manchester United make a move for £5 million-rated Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, the club might still allow Heaton to join Luton Town.
Suzuki, now 20, made his senior debut for Japan’s national team in 2022 and at the age of 16 became the J-League’s youngest player to sign a professional deal with Urawa Reds.
After 12 years in Manchester, David de Gea is now a free agent. Sevilla is apparently interested in signing him if Yassine Bounou, their highly respected goalkeeper, decides to leave this summer.
The Moroccan international has ties to both PSG and Bayern Munich.
