CRISTIANO Ronaldo put his contract with Nike in jeopardy by playing in a preseason match against Al-Nassr.
Despite having a long-standing association with Nike, the Portuguese talisman was seen wearing Adidas shin guards below his socks.
The 38-year-old has been a Nike employee since 2003 and is currently bound to the Oregon-based firm for a £147 million, 10-year contract.
He is considered one of their top athletes and has participated in a significant number of brand-related advertising campaigns over the years.
In the sportswear market, Adidas is regarded as Nike’s main competitor.
Ronaldo’s reps have been approached by SunSport for comment.
The former Real Madrid player was competing in a preseason match between the Saudi Arabian club and La Liga team Celta Vigo.
The mid-table Spanish squad easily defeated Al-Nassr in their 5-0 victory.
After playing the first 45 minutes, Ronaldo took a break in the second half, which saw all five goals scored.
Al-Nassr will face even more difficult challenges as they continue their preseason trip in preparation for the forthcoming season.
The team from Riyadh will compete against Benfica, PSG, and Inter Milan before the regular season begins.
They just signed a relationship with the American company starting in late July, thus it is likely that they will participate in some of the games wearing a new Nike-sponsored uniform.
