UPDATE: Manchester United defeated Lyon 1-0, with a £35 million ace among the winners

On Wednesday afternoon in Edinburgh, Manchester United resumed their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 victory over Lyon.

Poor finishing in the first half caused United to go into halftime at 0-0, much as we saw the week before.

A spectacular volley goal by Donny van de Beek early in the second half broke the scoreless tie and preserved United’s perfect record.

The game’s six winners are listed below.

Joe Kovar

Despite the fact that it is only preseason, he appeared more capable than David De Gea of playing goalkeeper for an Erik Ten Hag club. He was fully at ease at the level.

Kobi Maino

He played defensive midfield, dropping deep to create a back three to help with build-up, and he looked terrific in that position.

He is physically and technically capable, and he also has a high football IQ, therefore it appears likely that Ten Hag will select him for his team this year.

Hannibal Mejbri

He once more exuded a sense of ease, which is not surprising given that he has played senior football for an entire season.

Ten Hag was obviously impressed with Hannibal’s play because he kept the starting spot over Fred. Hannibal is definitely one to watch for the upcoming season.

Van de Beek, Donny

He was able to properly catch the cross, neutralize its sting, and direct the ball into the top corner.

Aside from the goal, he played a strong half, doing the fundamentals well, and will be pleased with his performance after suffering a serious injury. Could he be on the verge of collecting his £35 million fee?

Dan GoreDan Gore was yet another midfielder who stood up today. With a brilliantly weighted cross for van de Beek, the 18-year-old was instrumental in United’s opening goal.

Elsewhere Gore was tremendously technical, outstanding on the ball, and incredibly tough in defense, which helped United maintain possession.

He is a player whose loan transfer, potentially to the Championship, is something we are anticipating for this upcoming season.

Jackson EvansThe most unexpected development this week was the inclusion of Jonny Evans on the roster for this friendly despite just having signed a short-term contract with United.

It appears to be a wise decision now that it has been highlighted for 45 minutes. Evans scarcely made a mistake in this game, displaying his expertise and knowledge of football.

Given the potential impending departure of Harry Maguire, he was a strong option to have in the squad as a visible and outspoken leader.
