Former Barcelona defender Jordi Alba will join Lionel Messi’s side at Inter Miami, the club’s president of Major League Soccer has confirmed.
The 34-year-old left-back made his debut at Barcelona at the end of last season after playing more than 450 games for the club, winning the Champions League in 2015, six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey titles, and four Super Cups. Spanish Cup and World Club Championship.
Alba, who has made more than 90 caps for Spain, will be part of a strong former Barcelona squad at Inter Miami, with Messi and Sergio Busquets already joining the club.
“He has signed a contract and will arrive in the next few days. Tata (coach Gerardo Martino) is counting on him,” Jorge Mas said Tuesday in an interview with TyC Sports.
Miami is also looking to sign another former Barcelona player, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, who plays for Gremio in Brazil. Mas says talks have taken place but “he is a Gremio player and I respect that”.
The president of the MLS team also confirmed the arrival of Paraguayan midfielder Diego Gomez from Libertad, adding that they have officially contacted Argentina’s Racing Club to inquire about Tomas Aviles.
