ANDRE ONANA will sign for Manchester United today after a deal worth up to £47.2M was finally arranged with Inter Milan.
The goalkeeper flew in last night and will put pen to paper on a five-year contract, with the option of a sixth, after a medical.
Boss Erik ten Hag is hoping he can even join his team by the time they board the plane for the start of the US tour following tonight’s friendly against Lyon in Edinburgh.
However, visas must first be arranged for the 27-year-old, who will cost the Red Devils £43.8m upfront with the rest of the fee based on add-ons.
Ten Hag prioritized him after former No 1 David de Gea left on a free transfer late last month after 12 years and 545 appearances.
Cameroonian Onana agreed on a salary of around £200,000 a week before he said goodbye to his Inter teammates yesterday and headed to the airport.
He will reunite with Ten Hag, who won three Eredivisie titles under the manager before he left Ajax on a free transfer just a year ago.
Onana, who gave up his international career in December after falling out with Cameroonian coach Rigobert Song at the World Cup, is Ten Hag’s second major signing of the summer following a major signing. Mason Mount’s £55 million price tag.
The Dutch will now focus exclusively on capturing Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta.
The Italian club initially demanded a whopping £86m for the 1.8m-tall Danish striker, who has played in just 87 games and scored nine goals in 32 appearances last season.
But the Old Trafford side is increasingly confident they can drop the price to around £60m including additional terms for the 20-year-old.
Onana’s arrival, coupled with Mount’s fee, means Ten Hag has splashed out £98.8m of his transfer budget, which is capped at £120m.
But he hopes to make a difference for Hojlund in a player sale with Harry Maguire, Anthony Elanga, Alex Telles, Scott McTominay, and Dean Henderson all available.
And he hopes to get up to £10m for full-back Telles.
A deal has almost been agreed with Al-Nassr, where he will re-link with former United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, with the 30-year-old having reached personal terms.
Goalkeeper Henderson’s move to Nottingham Forest has stalled after a £10m offer was rejected.
But clubs are still expected to agree to a higher fee, especially as Onana prepares to become United’s new No.
