Former Manchester United star David de Gea is “set for an immediate and very lucrative return to football” after being released by the Red Devils.
DAVID DE GEA may be immediately prepared to resume playing football after being let go by Manchester United earlier this month.
United did not renew the contract of the club’s highest-paid player, a Spanish goalkeeper making £375,000 per week, because they had their sights set on Andre Onana.
According to the Daily Star, De Gea may see a DOUBLE in compensation as a result of ‘lucrative’ offers from Saudi clubs this summer.
One of the parties who might be keen on a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo is Al-Nassr.
The Riyadh-based club, however, is currently subject to a transfer restriction because of unpaid debts, allowing other Saudi teams to intervene.
De Gea initially gave the impression that he intended to remain at United longer because he was prepared to accept a pay cut in order to compete for a position.
De Gea withdrew from the negotiations and ended his 12-year association with the team when United withdrew the offer just as an agreement was about to be made.
He won six important titles with United, including the Premier League in 2013 and the Europa League in 2017.
Former captain Harry Maguire might follow De Gea out the door.
Maguire claimed yesterday that United boss Erik Ten Hag is not happy with him as a first-team option, which is why he no longer serves as the team’s captain. In a social media message, he said that he was “extremely disappointed” with Ten Hag’s decision.
Maguire is reportedly the player West Ham wants to sign, but potential buyers are being deterred by United’s demands for a £50 million transfer fee.
West Ham, Tottenham, and Newcastle are currently vying with Chelsea for Maguire’s services, according to yesterday’s SunSport report.
Jordan Pickford was initially under consideration by United as De Gea’s replacement, but they rejected the Toffees’ £70 million asking price.
The team then turned its focus to Onana, and with the goalkeeper having a physical later this week, they are close to sealing a £47 million signing.
With 545 appearances, De Gea leaves United as the goalkeeper with the most career appearances.
