A stunning deal brought seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi to the United States following the end of his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Argentinian icon bid farewell to European football, as he readied for a fresh start in the MLS, and he was warmly received – albeit slightly drenched – when introduced to the Florida native on Sunday.
Roccuzzo was by her husband’s side during his official debut – as were kids Thiago, Ciro, and Mateo – with the Messi clan feeling the “love” a new set of fans had for them.
Roccuzzo posted on Instagram: “New beginnings. What a beautiful love they have for you, Leo Messi! Always with you!” She also included a video of her three boys wearing Inter Miami jerseys and chanting the team’s name.
Messi is set to make his Inter Miami debut in a Leagues Cup clɑsh with Cruz Azul on Friday and told those at his premiere: “First of all, I want to thank all the people of Miami for this welcome, this affection. I want to thank you for the kindness and love that you have shown me. This happened too quickly.
I’m so happy to be here, to be with you. I want to thank Jose (Mas, Miami co-owner), and David (Beckham) for the welcome. They are making everything easy for us, everything has been spectacular since our arrival. I really want to start training and competing. I want to win so the club continues to grow. I hope that you will join us as you have been since the season began. I thank my new colleagues for the welcome. I’m so glad I chose this city with my family and chose this project. I have no doubt that we will have a good time. Thank you all so much for today.”
