According to Neil Jones, Florentino Luis is Liverpool’s top choice to replace Fabinho. The 23-year-old Portuguese midfielder may leave Benfica for as cheap as £25 million. Jurgen Klopp wants to replace himself with a player who has both youth and experience.
Florentino Luis, who has made 86 appearances for Benfica, possesses the perfect blend of youth and experience. He just finished a season in which the squad won the championship, and he has become an integral part of the team’s success. He kept performing well for the team even after losing Enzo Fernandez, a key cog in the midfield, in January.
It’s possible that was a factor in Liverpool’s pursuit of the DM. Jurgen Klopp apparently decided against signing any other midfielders after acquiring Dominik Szoboszlai. Due to the many developments since, the German strategist has had to re-enter the market for more than two players.
He was left off of Liverpool’s preseason tour due to the club’s willingness to let him go. Since Henderson and possibly Fabinho will need to be replaced, Klopp will have to do so. Although Romeo Lavia has been on Klopp’s radar for some time, with his tender age and prohibitive transfer fee, the manager may have lost interest.
The question of how serious Liverpool is about the move remains, as will the timing of when they begin making proposals. Southampton’s current asking price of £50 million for Lavia leaves room for negotiation.
