Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Inter Milan, is apparently close to being signed by Manchester United, with the Red Devils reportedly prepared to pay €50m (£42.8m) plus €5m (£4.3m) add-ons.
Since David de Gea was given permission to leave the team this summer on a free transfer, Erik ten Hag’s team is looking for a new number one, and Onana has recently been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Man United and Inter have been negotiating a price for the goalkeeper, who appears to have already reached a personal agreement with the 20-time English champions.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ten Hag’s management and Inter have now come to terms, with the English club agreeing to pay €50 million (£42.8 million) for the former Cameroon international along with €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons.
Romano claims that the structure of the add-ons is currently being discussed, but there are not expected to be any further issues, with Onana on the verge of moving to Manchester.
In a later tweet on Thursday evening, the Italian journalist posted a picture of Onana ‘on his final dinner’ in Milan, with the stopper preparing to say goodbye to the Serie A giants.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: “Andre Onana had his last dinner in Milan, at Javier Zanetti’s Botinero restaurant.
“Man United and Inter are finalizing the details of the deal. Both sides expect Onana to become a rookie of Man United in the coming hours.
“The deal is almost done.”
The 27-year-old was in excellent form for Inter during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 41 occasions in all competitions, contributing 19 clean sheets in the process.
Onana signed a five-year deal with the San Siro giants upon his arrival from Ajax last summer, but Inter are under pressure to make some sales in the current market due to their financial problems.
The stopper previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax, and he is set to become Man United’s number one for the 2023-24 campaign, taking the place of the recently-released De Gea
As it stands, Tom Heaton is the only senior Red Devils goalkeeper fit and available, with Dean Henderson still recovering from a thigh problem.
However, Henderson is anticipated to make a permanent transfer to Nottingham Forest this summer, which could result in the arrival of a second goalkeeper in addition to Onana.
Against Leeds United on Wednesday, Matej Kovar, 23, took over for the final 45 minutes after Heaton started the game.
With a 2-0 victory over the Whites, in which Mason Mount made his professional debut, the 20-time English champions had the ideal start to their preseason campaign.
Man United will travel to the US for friendlies against Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund after playing their second midsummer friendly against Lyon on Wednesday.
